President’s Message

Inspiration comes in many forms and is always around us. Most times we tend to overlook the roles of basic infrastructure workers such as nurses, doctors, hospital workers, paramedics, police, fi remen, teachers, childcare workers, clerks, stockers, truck drivers, restaurant workers, and delivery services. The list could go on. The world pandemic has caused us to take notice and be inspired by these workers’ dedication and devotion. As I come to the end of my fi rst year as SAWE President, I’d like to share some of the many inspirational people and the roles they’ve served for you through SAWE. Kim Mittler and Werner Sellner headed up the Hamburg Conference Host Committee. The committee consisted of European Chapter members and International Offi cers and Chairmen. As we know, the conference had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. However, this committee’s mission was very successful. Substantial eff ort went into arranging technical papers and presentations, conference announcement details, fi nance and budgeting, facility planning, vendor support, training courses, workshops, and fun excursions. They were absolutely prepared to host the conference. It is unfortunate that SAWE will not be having the conference in Hamburg with these wonderful hosts, but our SAWE Tech Fair was able to transfer some of the papers, presentations, and vendor support. I was inspired by the Host Committee’s teamwork, commitment to mission, and hard work.
