72nd International SAWE Conference 2013 Standards and Practices Meetings

Tuesday of each SAWE International conference is the day devoted entirely to the activities of the Standards and Practices Committee. In many respects, this is the day when many people feel that the greatest value is recognized by our employers. This is the day that SAWE members come together to have meaningful discussions on topics of common interest. Members get a chance to discuss these issues and concerns in a non-proprietary setting and, most importantly, discuss potential solutions. Competitors sit down with one another, vendors meet with their suppliers, and regulatory and academic professionals meet with the rest of their industry. While technical papers are a great benefit, the development of a standard can represent a team achievement that best represents what the SAWE is all about. They can affect future generations by providing guidance, education, or rules, and their impact can be felt long after the authors have retired. The large number of attendees who participate in the activities on Tuesday are evidence of the priority that attendees place on the SPC.
