Military Aircraft Industry Committee

The Military Aircraft Committee session was chaired by Larry Linner of LMCO and Anthony Primozich of the USAF and was attended by 26 persons. The committee has been busy with the development of new and revised standards. A draft of a new RP addressing supplier weight control is nearly complete. New standards on aircraft weighing reconciliation and weighing qualifications are also in progress. Significant discussion during the session centered on the subject of rotorcraft in RP-8 and the establishment of a subcommittee to review changes and field questions from the industry. Efforts to update RPs 7 and 8 were also initiated. RP-7 needs review for currency while RP-8 needs revision to address unmanned air vehicles, summary weight statements, and a general cleanup of the text. A committee was also set up to propose changes to RP-8 regarding rotorcraft. The Committee expects to bring two new standards into the approval circuit during the coming year and a third one following closely after that. The attendees also discussed the procedures and implications of elevating RPs through ANSI to become ISO standards.
