Hibernia Oil Platform Weight Engineer’s Reunion

An impromptu reunion of the core weight engineers for the massive iceberg resistant Hibernia Oil Platform wasrnheld at the conference after the SnP Luncheon. These weight engineers all had significant roles to play as thernCanadian Chapter hosted its first International Conference. The alumni included: Manuel Manata, the SnP LuncheonrnSpeaker; Anthony Lyczko, the 2017 Conference Training Coordinator; and the technical paper authors David Bennettrnand Doug Fisher. They were all weight engineers on the design and construction of the oil platform for the Hiberniarnoil field in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 315 km east-southeast of St. John’s, Newfoundland, in 80 mrnof water. The oil production platform is the world’s largest oil platform weighing 1,087,000 t empty and 1,258,000 trnwith a full load of stored oil, or 2.7 billion pounds. Development started in 1987, construction in 1990, with on locationrnproduction beginning in 1997: a real fast track project!
