In Memoriam James L. 'Jim' Valentine 1959- 2017

We are sad to announce the passing of James L. “Jim” Valentine, 58, after a brief battle with cancer onrnNovember 3, 2017. He was born on May 3, 1959, in Van Nuys, California. He is survived by his motherrnEvelyn, wife Teresa, daughter Jaime, grandson Dylan and sister June.rnJim began his career in aerospace at the Lockheed-Burbank Company in 1978. While at Lockheed, hernworked on a wide variety of vehicles including the L-1011, P-3, YF-22, X-35, Polecat and many otherrnprograms as a member of advanced development programs, aka “Skunkworks”.rnJim became a member of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of SAWE in 1981 and became very active inrnthe Society starting in the mid 1990’s. At the International level, Jim held the offi ce of Executive VicernPresident, Senior Vice President, and served fi ve terms as Chapter Director. At the chapter level, he servedrnfour terms as President, two terms as Vice-President, two terms as Secretary and three terms as Treasurer.rnJim made conference participation his mission as he attended more than 20 International and 15 RegionalrnConferences. He was the conference co-chair and fi nance chair of the very successful 2006 InternationalrnConference in Valencia, CA. Jim’s dedication to the Society warranted his elevation to SAWE Fellow inrn2002, and SAWE Honorary Fellow in 2008.
