Heavy precipitation soaked much of the nation's mid-section this month, while little rain fell across the Mid-Atlantic states, the western Gulf Coast region, and the West. The heaviest band of rain, totaling at least twice the October normal, stretched from northern Texas to the Red River (of the North) Valley. After mid-month, heavy rain also briefly affected the lower Southeast. Elsewhere, occasionally stormy weather in the Northeast included some late-month snow, while periods of warmth accompanied the western dryness. At month's end, however, much-needed precipitation spread into California and the Northwest.
