Odour from Thames Water's Manor Farm sewage treatment plant is something of a fact of life for those who live nearby, so much so that they have a name for it - the Whitley Whiff. But that is set to change, as Reading is due to get a shiny new, "state of the art" sewage works by late next year. Reading New Sewage Treatment Works, as the £80M project is unambiguously called, is being built by Target Alliance, a consortium of client Thames Water and joint venture design and build contractors Taylor Woodrow and Black & Veatch.
