In the central Vietnamese city of Hue, Thua Thien Hue Water Supply Company (CoWaSu) is actively implementing WSP and staking its claim to be the second WHO/AusAID pilot project, after Hai Duong, for WSPs in Viet Nam.CoWaSu has been working on upgrading and building new infrastructure for a number of years and now implements WSP.The result: water quality meets Ministry of Health drinking water standards and after treatment has a turbidity of just 0.2 nephelometric turbidity units (NTU) (a tenth of Ministry of Health standards and similar to levels in Japan).The company has upgraded 60 km of pipeline, conducted a survey with recommendations to local and national government on pesticide effects on the water source, and is leading the way in capacity building and awareness raising.Along with offering internships for students and visiting schools to raise awareness, tourists and locals can now drink clean water from one of sixteen public fountains in the area - the first ever in Viet Nam (see photo).
