Aid mobilised to contain Haiti cholera outbreak

Aid agencies, under the leader-ship of UNICEF, have rushed to respond to the outbreak of cholera in Haiti. Over 135 people died in the first week that the disease was reported to have emerged, a figure that rapidly rose to 220 deaths and over 2600 cases. As Water21 went to press the latest figures were at least 337 deaths and over 4700 cases of the disease, the first outbreak in the country in 100 years. However, the latest reports suggested the situation is stabilising.
