I just recently replaced a competitor's out-of-date softener unit with a new one in a house. The raw water contains 21 gpg (grains per gallon) of hardness, a TDS of 350 ppm,and a pH of 5.0.rnThe competitor has a flow switch on the outlet side of the softener bypass with an injection point and mixer immediately afterwards. A chemical feed pump is activated by water flowing through the flow switch. This then feeds a soda ash (sodium carbonate) solution to raise the pH in the house to 7.3.
