In this century, humans will face many water resource problems relative to water quality, quantity, and timing as related to human health, natural resource sus-tainability, and ecosystem services. These issues are tightly coupled to climate and climate change, and to a continually expanding human population. The combination of factors creates complex interconnected problems that require interdisciplinary water resources solutions. It is expected that the human population will peak sometime during this century, with approximately 75% of humans living in urban areas.
