The U.S. Supreme Court recently upheld the right of citizens to sue companies for alleged violations of federal environmental laws. In a landmark 7 to 2 decision in January, the Supreme Court reversed a 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that a citizen's suit must be dismissed if the company alleged to have committed the violation comes into compliance with the law, even after litigation has begun.
