'India needs to move into phase-2 of telecom revolution'

The architect of Indian telecom revolution Sam Pitroda, who played a key role in modernizing the sector, shifted lock, stock and barrel to India from Chicago in the 80s to drive the highly successful PCO revolution. Since then, he has played key roles in government bodies such as National Knowledge Commission; National Innovation Council; and as PM's advisor on Public Information Infrastructure & Innovations; Committee for ICT in Railways; SmartGrid Task Force of the Power. For his contribution in driving Indian telecom industry, Voice&Data honored him with the Voice&Data Lifetime Contribution Award 2014. In conversation with the publication, Pitroda talks about the second phase of telecom revolution, and why it is important for the industry to urgently move out of the first phase now.
