It has been 25 years since Voice&Data was born. Thank you, everyone, for making this a wonderful journey. We hope to carry this on forward, for many more years. What can I say about these 25 years! Well, I have fond memories of the Association for Radio and Business Industries (ARIB), Japan, which visited New Delhi, India, in February 1995. At that time, the personal handyphone system or PHS was all the rage in Japan as a cellular technology. If you wish to know more, it is a system operating in the 1880-1930 MHz frequency band, used in Japan, China, Taiwan, and some Asian countries. Now, along with PHS, came another cellular technology to India, called Groupe Speciale Mobile, or GSM, also in 1994-95. Later, it changed the name to Global System for Mobile Communications. I was able to call my wife, from Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, in early 1995, from a trade show, using a GSM handset provided to me by Nani Narayanan, of Motorola.
