摘要

Architecture and photography are entangled mass media. Since the advent of photography in the nineteenth century, this new medium has played a critical role in the dissemination of architectural ideas, contributing significantly to, and indeed changing the nature of, discourses of architecture, including both modern or contemporary debates and histories of architecture.1 Claire Zimmerman's book examines these relationships. Tracing a particular (and well-known) line of German modernism associated closely with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969), she offers a multifaceted approach to the study of the interrelationship between photography and twentieth-century architecture. Inherently interdisciplinary and deeply researched, her book adds an important contribution to scholarship on modern architecture and its photographic representation.
