NASA Heavy-Lift Rotorcraft Systems Investigation Review Meeting

The Rotorcraft (RC) Sector was established in January 2004 as one of six vehicle sectors within the Vehicle Systems Program of the NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate. The principal aim of the Rotorcraft Sector is to improve public mobility and access to air transportation by investing in technologies that enable a large civil rotorcraft transport. The primary FY05 activity for the Sector is to identify the best candidate heavy-lift rotorcraft configuration(s) that meet aggressive technology goals and establish risk reduction plans. A focused analytical effort, the NASA Heavy-Lift Rotorcraft Systems Investigation, was launched in late FY04 to investigate promising configurations. Contracts were established with Bell, Boeing, Sikorsky, the University of Maryland, the Pennsylvania State University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology to participate in this coordinated investigation.
