Waiting for connectivity - and broadband

During March 2005 I tried to phone Telkom. Usually there was no answer - after a few rings there was a click and a long peeeep; no connection. When I did get through, I was told: "Hold on" - click-peeeep. Eventually, after about ten tries, I managed to explain that I wanted to transfer my telephone line to a new address. Unfortunately I was moving to a new development, and even though the developer had registered it with Telkom some time in 2004, there was no record of it.
