This article looks at fixed pattern medium voltage switchgear vs. the commonly available withdrawable switchgear in terms of the new IEC 62271-200 standard, which enables users to request that manufacturers prove the ability of switchgear to prevent injury to personnel as a result of an internal arc fault, and to define exactly how safe the switchgear is.
