In 1993 when I entered the world of explosion protection, we had not heard the term "zone" for a hazardous area, and only two "divisions" existed for both explosive gas atmospheres and explosive dust atmospheres. However, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) had already started affecting the world and our country with a vision of a single standard, which looked far off at that stage.
