The promises of biotech

Biotechnology Industry Organization reports that the amount of money invested in the US biotech industry increased 156% in one year. Like any cyclical high-tech sector, biotech is experiencing a temporary slump. It will only be a matter of time before the next upswing occurs. What promises to drive that upswing is the tremendous number of drugs in the pipeline today. Roughly 40% of all drugs in clinical trials come from the biotech industry, and roughly 40% of new drugs approved originate from biotech companies. So, while biotech requires patience and capital, its importance in the health care world cannot be understated, and its potential ROI is akin to winning a megalottery.
