An interview with James Goodnight is Presented. Goodnight attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where he graduated with a degree in applied mathematics in 1965 and also completed master's and Ph.D. degrees in statistics by 1971. After a stint on his alma mater's faculty, he founded SAS Institute with Anthony J. Barr, John Sall, and Jane Helwig. This firm has become one of America's longest-standing and most successful privately held technology companies.
