It's Politics as Usual In an Unusual Economy

There is little to despair with regard to the state of the union these days, even in an election year. The nation's unemployment rate has reached an all-time low—despite some hiccups—while world trade continues to grow. Personal-income growth in many sectors of the economy has lapped the rate of inflation several times over. And state tax revenues are so high that even some Democrats are suggesting tax cuts.
