This study compares the effectiveness, functionality and patient satisfaction of locking, nonlocking palmar plating and the external fixation for unstable distal radius fractures in the elderly. A total of 45 patients aged 50 to 70 years who underwent surgery for C1/C2 distal radius fractures were evaluated in a match-paired study. Surgical procedures were external fixation or plating with the locking or non-locking palmar plate. Functional and radiological outcomes were assessed. The Martini and the DASH questionnaires were compared.
