THE HONG KONG-ZHUHAI-MACAO bridge runs for a total length of 55km, with 29km over the water, passing through important shipping channels. Because of the reservation for local development，a requirement for limiting the blockage of the Pear River Estuary and the limitations put in place by Hong Kong International Airport，a solution combining a bridge and tunnel (with the changeover on artificial islands) was chosen.
