Cologne's North-South Urban Light Railway, Part I - the Project

One of Europe's largest building projects will get underway when work on the approx. 4 km long North-South Urban Light Railway starts shortly in Cologne - an inner urban tunnelling measure, which is influenced by extremely tricky constructional and local marginal conditions. In this introductory article, TUNNEL now presents the background and the planning for the project. From time to time it will be followed up by other contributions dealing with its completion, which will take some eight years.
