Fullerene nanotubes hold tremendous promise for numerous applications, owing to their remarkable properties, including strength, toughness, chemical robustness, thermal conductivity and, perhaps most interestingly, electrical conductivity. Depending on their precise molecular symmetry, some nanotubes are semiconducting, while others exhibit truly metallic conductivity. This behaviour, coupled with their nanoscale geometry, makes them ideal, perhaps unique, candidates for wires, interconnects and even devices for true molecular electronics.
