Roto-Rooter Completes Challenging Relining Project at Pittsburgh Hospital

Roto-Rooter's Pittsburgh branch recently completed a successful pipe relining job beneath the Latrobe Area Hospital, located east of Pittsburgh. Roto-Rooter's Engineering Services crew relined more than 125 ft of pipe beneath the hospital's kitchen facilities without the hospital having any downtime in the kitchen. Cast-iron pipes that were 3 and 4 in. in diameter beneath the kitchen had seriously deteriorated and were leaking in several places along their length. The lines were floor drains and branch lines from sinks, dishwashers and other appliances. However, it was vital that the hospital's busy kitchen facility not be closed down to accommodate a time-consuming excavation and pipe replacement. Norman Ziemer, Latrobe Area Hospital's director of facilities, contacted Roto-Rooter for advice and options and ultimately hired the company to complete the job. Relining the existing pipes proved to be the most sensible and cost-effective option for the hospital and the Roto-Rooter crew agreed to work primarily at night when the kitchen received little use.
