Operations engineering is constantly evolving and all members have an obligation to undertake CPD in order to maintain their competency. For those registered with the Engineering Council as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng), or as a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) with the Society for the Environment, undertaking CPD underpins the value of these titles. Often, members don't realise how much CPD they do on a day-to-day basis in their job. CPD can include informal, on-the-job learning, as well as more structured learning in the form of courses such as distance learning programmes, private study, and mentoring. Importantly, members are required to take ownership of their development needs and have a plan to meet these objectives. CPD requirements also depend on individual circumstances, such as career progression, additional job functions, or professional registration.
