Six out of 10 fleet operators with telematics systems are not satisfied with their performance or ease of use, according to AGM Telematics. The firm carried out a phone survey among 50 operators in November and reports that 30 said they could not easily retrieve vehicle data. Worse, most of these said their systems are so difficult to operate, many features are left unused. AGM Telematics -which offers RouteMaster - says operators want telematics to reduce fuel and operating costs, as well as to improve efficiency through better scheduling, tracking and reporting. However, despite most system suppliers promising these attributes, few are delivering, says George Weston, director of AGM Telematics. "Frankly, we were surprised at the number [of operators] who said they have ended up paying for a system... that is quite useless," he says.
