Regulators adapting to a digital era

Big changes to truck operator-licensing, maintenance and testing in the UK are in the pipeline. A flexible approach to maintenance intervals, telematics-based condition-monitoring, and a single English traffic area are all on the cards. News of these developments emerged last month at an SOE IRTE London forum chaired by Transport Engineer editor Tim Blakemore. Senior representatives of three of the government's main road transport regulatory bodies outlined their current priorities and revealed some of what lies around the corner.
