An innovative ultra-high-pressure fuel system for truck and bus diesel engines, in effect a hybrid of two familiar fuel systems, is under development at Delphi, the big US-based components supplier trading under US Chapter 11 protection from bankruptcy. The Delphi system promises injector-nozzle pressures as high as 2,500 bar initially, but with the potential to go to 2,750 bar, rivalling the Bosch apcrs (amplified-pressure common-rail system).
