Diesel-electric hybrid trucks and buses should be rolling off Volvo production lines in Europe within two years. But much depends on financial help from the European Union. "We believe it is the technology of the future and we are investing in it heavily," says Jan-Eric Sundgren, Volvo group vice president in charge of environmental and public affairs. Speaking last month at a Brussels seminar organised by Volvo, Mr Sundgren urged the European Commission to be prepared to dig deep to find financial support for hybrids.
