Ronald Ker September 1934- March 2008

Ron joined the Institute of Road Transport Engineers in 1971 and was an active member until very recently. He bravely fought illness for a number of years but this did not deter him from taking a role within the North Eastern Centre, where he missed very few meetings or visits. Ron had to retire early due to his health problems, but whilst working he spent a large period of time as a workshop foreman at Durham County Council Central Workshops. Ron held the position of Chairman and was the Centre Honorary Treasurer for many years. He was also very active in promoting the IRTE at schools, technical lectures and was a judge each year at historic vehicle rallies. In addition, Ron was instrumental in raising funds for charity, benefiting many worthy causes. His outstanding commitment to the IRTE at local and national levels resulted in Ron being awarded an Honorary Fellowship in 1992.
