Trio of VOSA test stations set to close

Three of the 91 heavy goods vehicle test stations run by the government's Vehicle and Operator Services Agency are to be closed within four months in what is described as the "next stage of its modernisation agenda."rnThe stations being closed are at Bredbury, near Stockport, Cheshire; Par, near St Austell, Cornwall; and Steeton, near Keighley, West Yorkshire. Their staff are said to be transferring to neighbouring test stations.rnVehicle operators affected by the closures are being assured by VOSA that they will be kept informed and that the agency "will assist them in making future test bookings at alternative locations." That may mean either switching to tests at non-VOSA sites, "designated premises," or going to another test station. For truck and busrnoperators at present using the Par test station, the nearest alternative test stations are at Redruth and Plymouth, both 30 miles away from Par.
