The British government was under intense pressure to cut diesel fuel duty as Transport Engineer went to press this month, with hauliers threatening to blockade fuel terminals unless some government action was forthcoming. As the price of oil soared last month, a report from the government's own Department for Transport showed the extent to which UK truck operators are already losing out in international haulage. And on top of all this came news of plans to further liberalise European Union cabotage rules in a way that would put UK operators at even more of an unfair disadvantage.
