Behind the dull grey exterior of an unprepossessing building on a sprawling industrial estate in northwest London, a revolution of sorts is being hatched. And several of the revolutionaries based there used to be employed by Britain's armed forces. Before a flying squad of Metropolitan Police officers starts hot-footing it towards Perivale, I had better explain. This is a revolution in bus engineering and maintenance, and far from causing any pain or suffering, it appears to be delivering substantial cost-savings and efficiency gains, not to mention enhanced job-satisfaction for those involved.
