Yorkshire-based bus builder Optare is in new hands this month as a result of the third bus industry acquisition in six months by Roy Stanley, an entrepreneur from north-eastern England. In July 2005 North American Bus Industries sold Optare to a private-equity-backed management buy-out team of six. Last month they sold the company to Jamesstan Investments for an undisclosed sum. The man behind Jamesstan is Roy Stanley, chairman and former chief executive of Washington, Tyne-and-Wear-based Tanfield Group. Tanfield's two main subsidiaries are Smith Electric Vehicles and UpRight Powered Access, a manufacturer of aerial work platforms (Transport Engineer September 2007).
