Government urged to think again on fuel duty rise

Chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling is coming under intense pressure to call off a two-pence-per-litre rise in diesel fuel duty due to come into effect on 1 April. There is nothing unusual in government lobbying by the two main road transport associations, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) and Road Haulage Association (RHA) in advance of a budget speech scheduled for 12 March.
