The act of learning involves sharing knowledge with others, so it's no surprise that colleges and universities are at the head of the class in adopting collaborative technologies. Portals are an excellent case in point. The idea of Web-connected campuses is catching on. Gartner, Stamford, CT, estimates that by fall 2005, higher-education enterprise portals will reach 80 percent of all the colleges and universities in the United States with an enrollment of more than 1,000 students.
