In 1628 the newly founded National Land Survey of Sweden (NLS) began the laborious task of gathering detailed geographic information about the country. Three hundred seventy-two years later NLS finds itself the beleaguered steward of 50 million archived documents. According to its mission as an agency of the Ministry of the Interior, NLS must not only keep track of these records, but also make them easily accessible to Sweden's public.
