During early stage concept refinement a ship designer needs fast, robust tools to execute analyses of alternatives that accurately portray cost versus capability trade-offs for dozens of ship concepts. The Integrated Hydrodynamics Design Environment (IHDE) is being developed as the way to achieve this in a meaningful way. The IHDE is a desktop application that integrates a suite of hull form analysis tools to evaluate hydrodynamic performance in a simplified and timely manner. The IHDE also includes an analysis tool validation engine, which provides the user with validation information for the included analysis tools by leveraging historical model test data for comparisons. The advantages of the IHDE include automation of analysis preparation, improving efficiency and reducing input errors, automated grid generation, parallel execution, and integrated visualization across all ship performance areas.
