摘要

Oil companies use downhole measurements to identify and quantify oil and gas in exploration wells. They also use nuclear logs to evaluate producing wells in order to enhance production. The problems are underdetermined and require additional information or constraints in order to solve for the desired petrophysical parameters. Oil companies have used forward modeling tools to estimate nuclear log response based on their best determination of downhole conditions. One such code, developed in 1988 , calculates the response in an infinite, homogenous medium, an unrealistic situation in most oil wells. Monte Carlo methods have been employed for over 30 years to evaluate the response of nuclear tools to varying borehole conditions for use in optimizing tool design and for developing environmental correction algorithms. In recent years, some limited studies have involved using Monte Carlo codes to evaluate the response of nuclear tools to bed laminations.
