In October 1999, BC Rail put on its last steam special to the interior of British Columbia, from North Vancouver to 100 Mile House in South Cariboo. I was working in train service for the railroad at that time and witnessed the excursion firsthand. The five-man train and engine crew, as well as Al Broadfoot from BC Rail's steam program, put on a first-class show. They made BC Rail employees proud, and it was a fitting curtain call for both the steam program and the railway itself.
