Have you ever gotten on the wrong train? You know that feeling of panic that sets in? It happened to me last September in Germany. Two high speed Intercity-Express trains were coupled together, one train headed to my destination and the other scheduled to detach and go on to who knows where. I'd checked a sign on the platform that said my train would be the rear of the two sets. But German Railways reversed the order that evening. And that's how I found myself speed-walking through the wrong trainset, wheeling a suitcase behind me, and inadvertently bumping countless knees and feet. If I could make it to the front before we got to the next station, I could jump out and race ahead to the lead trainset before we pulled away, and be aboard the right train.
