Six months after the first customer cards were made available, London's Oyster smartcard has almost half a million regular users. The Oyster smartcard makes buying tickets and getting through gates and onto buses faster and more convenient than ever before. It will reduce ticket fraud, provide greater security for customers if cards are lost or stolen and could release customers from ever waiting in line to get a ticket again. Developed by the TranSys consortium led by EDS (Electronic Data Systems) and CTS (Cubic Transportation Systems), in partnership with Transport for London, Oyster is expected to raise the benchmark for all other transport smartcard systems.
