Freilot, a project which aims to deploy intelligent transport systems to increase urban freight energy efficiency, has been launched at Helmond in The Netherlands, one of four pilot cities. The others are Bilbao in Spain, Krakow in Poland and Lyons in France. Over a yearlong pilot phase a combination of five applications will be deployed to reduce energy consumption of urban freight by up to 25%. The project is supported by the European Commission's Competitiveness and Innovation Programme and involves 19 organisations which have joined forces to deploy and validate FREILOT technology.
