Speaking at the first-ever conference of ITS UK's Security Interest Group (SyIG) in December 2009, a Government security expert outlined three key areas of interest regarding how ITS may be impacted by or make a positive contribution to security. Philip Graham of TRANSEC, the Department for Transport's Transport Security and Contingencies Directorate, identified three important questions for the ITS community to consider: 1. What would be the consequences of an attack on ITS systems? Was it most likely that the impact of such attacks would be transport disruption - perhaps with longer-term economic effects - rather than direct harm?
