When East meets West

As the largest country in the world, with an ITS industry that is still in its infancy, Russia is a land of vast potential in terms of ITS development. The sheer scale of the market is quite staggering. According to ITS Russia, the country has over 930,000km of roads, 85,000km of railways, 100,000km of inland waterways and 1,200 airports, as well as some major public transport operations including metro, bus and tram. Considering Russia's geographical position as a natural bridge between east and west, there is also potential to convert these networks into more efficient multimodal transport corridors between European and Asian countries.
