FITs have a proven track record of rapidly increasing the share of renewable energy production and use. The idea behind FITs is a simple one: pay the owners of renewable energy systems for the power they generate at a fixed rate over an extended period of time. FITs bridge the gap between the increasing price of fossil fuels and the decreasing costs of renewable energy.
