ACM at heart of first ma naged motorway

The purpose of this article is provide information about the "Birmingham Box Phase 1 and 2" Managed Motorway Project. The Client for the project was the Highways Agency, the Designer was Mouchel and the Contractor was Carillion Construction Ltd. with numerous supply chain partners supporting the delivery. This project heralded the introduction of managed motorways, which is effectively the updated brand for Active Traffic Management which was piloted on the M42 between Junctions 3a and 7 some five years ago.
